Restorative Care
Our goal at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre is to have our residents reach their highest level of physical functioning. The purpose of Restorative Care is to increase independence, and ultimately our resident’s self-esteem and self-image through improved mobility and better physical functioning. The focus of a Restorative Care program is on mobility, functional fitness training, communication and activities of daily living.
Benefits of Restorative Care:
- To promote wellness and prevent debilitation
- To provide an atmosphere where residents can live a meaningful life with self-esteem
- To maintain or improve a resident’s functional abilities in mobility/ambulation, dressing, grooming, bathing and eating
- To assist the resident to function as independently as possible with a minimum amount of staff assistance
Unique to St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre our Restorative Coaches act as the facilitators of the Restorative Care program: offering guidance on transfers, proper lifting techniques, providing independence through proper seating, acting as a liaison with the Occupational Therapist and community vendors.
Daily exercise classes, as well as specialized strengthening classes are offered throughout the week. One-to-one facilitation with Speech Therapy and Mobility Specialists are available as needed and prescribed by the appropriate therapist.
