Bereavement Support Programs at Stedman Community Hospice
All grief support programs are offered free of charge. All sessions are held at Stedman Community Hospice, 445 Grey Street, Brantford.
Please note: To ensure equal opportunity and access to support for members of our community, we ask that you only participate in one grief support group at a time. Please refer to the following diagram to determine which support group best serves your needs.

MONTHLY SUPPORT GROUPS

A monthly grief support group providing a supportive, welcoming and inclusive space for ongoing support for any type of loss (sibling, parent, partner, spouse, child, friend, grandparent, etc.) or grief experience and at any point in your grief journey. This group is open to adults 18+ years of age who are seeking validation, normalization of experience and coping strategies as one learns to live with their grief.
For individuals two months post-loss and offered for up to one year of participation. The group capacity will be held at 15 registered participants per group session at Stedman Community Hospice. This group is facilitated by a member of the supportive care team.
The group sessions are held once per month on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30. p.m.

For individuals two months post-loss and offered for up to 1-2 years of participation. The group capacity will be held at 15 registered participants per gathering at Stedman Community Hospice. This group is appropriate for individuals who have previously taken part in a grief support group would like the opportunity for ongoing social connections. This gathering is supported by trained volunteers.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Survivors of Suicide Loss Bereavement Support group is a support group for adults who have lost a family member or friend to suicide. This group provides a supportive, welcoming and inclusive space for anyone grieving the loss of a family member or friend by suicide.
Facilitated through a hybrid model (run simultaneously - in person at Stedman Hospice and virtually over Zoom) once per month on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. **Note: No session held in August.

'Partner/Spousal Loss' Support Group
Partner/Spousal Loss Support Group is a 10-week grief support group open to individuals who have experienced the death of a partner or spouse. Providing a welcoming and inclusive space for weekly support for those facing the unique challenges of a partner/spousal loss from 6 weeks to 2 years post-loss. This group is open to those seeking validation, normalization of experience and coping strategies as one learns to live with their grief. This group is delivered as a closed group meaning, the same participants make the commitment to meet weekly for 10 weeks. The program is held during the Winter, Spring and Fall of each year. The group capacity will be held at 10 registered participants at Stedman Community Hospice. This group is facilitated by a member of the supportive care team.

Support During Serious Illness – Educational Series
Monthly educational support group providing a supportive, welcoming and inclusive space for individuals who have been diagnosed with a serious illness and caregivers in the community to connect with others and learn more about living with a serious illness or palliative diagnosis. Topics include exploring emotions, caregiver burnout, financial options and decisions, Advance Care Planning, coping with special occasions/gatherings, exploring grief and loss, self-care and support systems, etc. The group capacity will be held at 15 registered participants in person and 10 participants virtually. This group is facilitated by a member of the supportive care team.
Facilitated through a hybrid model (simultaneously - in person at Stedman Hospice and virtually over Zoom) once per month on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Specific topics for each date will be listed shortly.)

Care for the Caregiver Support Group
Monthly support group for those who are caregivers for an individual with a palliative diagnosis providing a supportive, welcoming and inclusive space to connect with other caregivers experiencing similar challenges and experiences. Providing the opportunity to share, receive support and take part in a therapeutic activity, offering care for the caregiver. The group capacity will be held at 15 registered participants at Stedman Community Hospice. This group is facilitated by a member of the supportive care team.
The group will be held once per month on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
